Join Cristina Favretto, head of Special Collections at the University of Miami, in conversation with Christopher "Scott" Satterwhite, as they reveal the often-hidden history of punk subcultures in Florida.
Satterwhite's newly published book,
A Punkhouse in the Deep South: The Oral History of 309, is about an infamous "punkhouse" in a small southern military town and the people who lived and passed through there. His book documents how these diverse characters created a community and built a thriving counterculture in one of the most unlikely settings.
Together, Favretto and Satterwhite discuss Special Collections' rich and growing punk archives—which include zines, original artwork, archival collections, ephemera, and more—while exploring what it's like to be in a Florida counterculture and the growth of "punkademia" as a serious and important field of research.
