Conversation with
David E. Hoffman, author of "Give Me Liberty: The True Story of Oswaldo Payá and his Daring Quest for a Free Cuba" and Pulitzer Prize-winning Washington Post contributing editor; and
Michael J. Bustamante, Ph.D., Associate Professor of History and Emilio Bacardí Moreau Chair in Cuban and Cuban-American Studies at the University of Miami.
Throughout Cuba’s 20th century history, the dream of democracy was often just within reach, only to be dashed by dictatorship and revived again by a new generation. In “Give Me Liberty,” David E. Hoffman offers a sweeping account of how one man, Oswaldo Payá, inherited this dream and made it his life’s work.
Hoffman engages in conversation with historian and author Michael J. Bustamante about the research and writing of the book, specifically the research he conducted at the
Cuban Heritage Collection. The conversation is followed by a question and answer session with the author moderated by Bustamante.
