This is an interview with Richard Clyde Higgins who was born in Oklahoma in 1921. In 1939, Richard joined the U.S. Navy and by the next year, he was drafted to Pearl Harbor, assigned to the patrol squad. Richard worked in the military as a radio signalman and radio operator. Richard remembers the Pearl Harbor attacks on the morning of December 7th, 1941. It was very early in the morning, and Richard was sleeping when he heard the bombs falling. It was a rude awakening, and Richard tells the whole story, and the duties he suddenly had at that moment. Richard also was deployed to Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and to the Aleutian Islands, in Alaska. Richard married a nurse during that time. When he retired, he lived in different cities within the US and looked for jobs in different radio corporations and technology for aircrafts. This interview is about Richard's experiences in the military, his fears, and his achievements as sailor and military expert radio signalman for almost twenty years.
