Tales from the Archives: The 1926 Miami Hurricane Recounted First- and Secondhand (Deep Dives into Special Collections)Presented by Chelsea Jacks
Thursday, September 19, 2024
"The Great Hurricane," as it was called in its
day, ripped through South Florida in September of 1926. In these early
years of Miami's development as a city, the population had grown to about
100,000. However, few firsthand accounts survive to document the
experience of individuals who endured the storm.
Journey with us through Special Collections' archives with
Reference Assistant Chelsea Jacks, and
experience the surviving stories of the storm and its damage from nearly
a century ago through letters, telegrams, postcards, and photographs.
