Caribbean Writers and Their Art: Journeys (1991)

Barbadian writer George Lamming discusses the theme of journeys in Caribbean literature, in conversation with host Edward Baugh. Lamming opens with some comments on fellow Caribbean writers V.S. Naipaul, Sam Selvon, and Jean Rhys. He explains how exile operates in his work and gives an overview of his six published novels. He closes by discussing the various influences of American writing on Caribbean literature, including the ways in which Hemingway, Faulkner, and Wright affected his own work.
