Interview with Sylvie Lubow about the StoryCorps Military Voices Initiative

This is the interview with Sylvie Lubow, the Program Manager of StoryCorps' Military Voices Initiative. At the time of this interview, Sylvie had been in this organization for 8 years. StoryCorps is an oral history and public media non-profit, which aims to interview people that know each other and get together in order to talk about their experiences. StoryCorps’ program gives support and voice to meaningful lives and archives the interviews in the Library of Congress. This program gives voice to people that are misrepresented or under represented. Lubow says that those interviews are very emotional because they are deeply personal. The StoryCorp’s Military Voices Initiative was started in 2012 and has interviewed people in the military who have shared their experiences, for example about Iraq and Afghanistan. Many of the people are veterans of those wars, and this program have interviewed them in order to give them support and the opportunity to express themselves. The organization has several partners to help support the veterans such as colleges, museums, sports centers, support groups, etc. By 2015, StoryCorps had gathered 1500 interviews and was nominated for an Emmy. Lubow also discusses her history with StoryCorps and the partnership between StoryCorps, Warmamas, and the University of Miami.
