Carmen talks about her family in service to the military. Her father and both grandparents served, and her spouse is a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel. She has two sons and a daughter. Her eldest son, Mark, joined the Air Force at age 18 and eventually found his place as a medic for an air evacuation crew to transport injured soldiers from overseas back to the U.S. He returned from Germany to the US in 2005, as a C-17 loadmaster, transporting supplies, food and any support needed, in addition to the solemn duty of bringing home fallen soldiers after 9/11. Carmen said she was able to cope with her son stationed overseas due to updated communication technology. Eventually Mark was stationed in Alaska until 2010, then Oklahoma. Carmen expresses her pride in her son's accomplishments in his 20 years of active military service, and to the military service of her daughter-in-law, and how military service brings families closer in service to country.
