Huber Matos (b. 1918) was former comandante (major) in Fidel Castro’s 26th of July Movement rebel army and who was sentenced by Castro’s regime to 20 years in prison less than a year after the victory of the Revolution. He was released in 1979 after serving his full sentence. Matos joined his family in exile in Miami, where he founded the Huber Matos Foundation for Democracy.
