Interview with Maude Heurtelou and Fequière Vilsaint. Heurtelou is the vice president and Vilsaint is the founder and president of Educa Vision, Inc. (EVI), a publishing company that develops and publishes bilingual educational materials in Kreyòl, English, and French. Originally from Haiti, Vilsaint moved to Montreal to study biology at Concordia University, and then studied biochemistry and biotechnology at Université Laval and Tufts University. He did research on renewable energy at McGill University and aquaculture infrastructure evaluation in Haiti and the Caribbean before moving to Florida to research the metabolism of cholesterol in the liver at the University of South Florida. Vilsaint started EVI in 1991 while working as a researcher. He is the author of 14 dictionaries and has published widely in academic journals. Maude Heurtelou, grew up in Haiti and moved to Guatemala to study nutrition and public health before moving to Canada. Currently a Senior Public Health Nutritionist, she has worked for the State of Florida for over 25 years with a focus on chronic health issues, such as diabetes. She has created educational materials for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the University of Florida Department of Communicable Diseases, and the University of South Florida College of Public Health. Heurtelou is also the author of two novels and 50 children’s books published by EVI, and she has contributed to numerous other literary publications.
