This interview is with Mileyka Burgos, Executive Director of the Allapattah Collaborative, CDC. Burgos states that neighbors of the community of Allapattah are being displaced by new developments and commerce. The Collaborative is helping residents to remain in their community. Housing opportunities have being affected in 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic, along with gentrification and racial inequality. The Collaborative aims to have affordable housing in the future for their community. This can only be possible with the creation of jobs and better opportunities for Allapattah residents, so that they can buy homes for themselves. Young people confront many obstacles in Miami, and many of them tend to seek better opportunities elsewhere. The Allapattah Collaborative provides better housing opportunities for young people, so that they can remain in the neighborhood where they belong.
