James Maraniss, translator of Cuban author Antonio Benitez Rojo's novel "The Sea of Lentils" (El Mar de las Lentejas), is introduced by Dr. Shari Benstock of the University of Miami English Dept. Maraniss reads some of the book and explains how he chose to phrase Benitez Rojo's Spanish in ways that would preserve the Afro-Caribbean rhythms of the original text. He recalls the first time he met Benitez Rojo at Amherst College. Afterwards, Maraniss answers questions from the audience.
